She attended New York University‘s Graduate Acting Program at the Tisch School of the Arts and graduated from there in 1980. Kozak legally changed her birth name from Susan to Harley. She did so because she liked the name, and she also confessed that the name came from one of her boyfriends who owned a Harley-Davidson bike.
